Drawings

Here is a drawing exercise that consisted of drawing what was around us the first image is what we were actually looking at whilst we were drawing for 20 minutes.  

The second drawing is off what we could remember of the scene we just saw, with our backs facing away from it. 

As you can see there are some similarities in what I could remember from what I could originally saw. There is a lot more detail in the original drawing, where as the memorised image was just about what big parts of the scene i could recall and draw. 

Also we had to go around the building drawing anything that interested us in small sketches, if it was a whole, or parts of it.

V&A Exhibition Visit

Memory Place

  Memory Palace is a walk-in story that brings to life, with a new work of fiction by the author Hari Kunzru. The concept of the story is set in a future London, where information has been been wiped. Technology and knowledge have been lost and nature has taken over the ruins of the old city.

From what I can recall from the exhibition was many interpretations of what London could of been like information was lost. There were a lot graphically drawn images as well as sculptures and paragraphs of words. I really liked the connection with the images and words because you understood the exhibition alot more and what the artist was trying to portray. 

On the first wall when you walked into Memory Place was how easy to remember something store in your mind:

*choose a place

*impressing detail in your memory

*remember details around the building/place -form pictures

*trigger your imagination

*to recall merely go into your imagination and find it  

Here are some of the meanings to words that Hari Kunzru has created during this fictional place:

*Memory Place - a technique used to remember, a space in which to place memories

*The Withering - the present time of decline

*The Booming - the golden age before the Withering

*The Wilding - a time in the future when humans live in complete union with nature

*Sign - information and the written word in the time of the Booming

*An Internet - an illegal gathering

All in all I thought that this exhibitions was very unique in the way that someone has created their own little futuristic world, where losing all information could lead to just having a memory of the past!!

The Art of Remembering

 The Exhibition of The Art of Remembering was basically how to display alternative ways of understanding art through out the years, from sketches from the Victorian era to modern day. The difference between what was previous drawn or made hasn't really changed in the way or development and planning but the style of design of art has changed. This exhibition as trying to explain an emotionally resonant space where you may mentally store what you want to recall.   

Illustration Awards

The V&A Illustration Awards celebrate the best illustration published over the last year. Original artwork from the best illustrated book, book cover, editorial illustration and student illustrator of the year are recognised. Here are the 4 designers that won the awards at the V&A they are all completely different in their own right.

On the left I really like the amount of colour and layering the designer has used to create each individual image. I like how detailed it is. 

On the right you can see four unusual illustrations that consists of combining modern and old objects brought together in one drawing.  

With this illustration piece above its is very much based on four main colours:blue, red, white and black. The concept of this deigns is for a series of books that the covers have a new look to the 1930's story. The style of design is digitally drawn which is quite unique.  

Below is the final illustration design is concept of drawings of the artists experiences in Syria. The drawings are minimalistic and quite easy to understand.     

Making it Up: Photographic Fictions

This exhibition was photographs images telling stories and evoking the imaginary, meaning that this photos were just thoughts in someones mind that they recreated for us to see. Below are three of my favourite photos. The top image is made up of chocolate spread, string to create this figure. The artist recreates famous images with the different items like sugar and tread. The middle image is of a model of a building creating this unrealistic world of how people live. I also like the depth of field that has been used as well. The last image is of a some houses in the snow, I like the lighting in this as looks natural and simple.

Time Capsules

To start our week off, we were asked to bring in items that have a lot of significant to us and in our memory. Below are my items, photos, tickets and objects. The top row is in what order of when I got them or when it happened. The bottom row is of what it most important to me. 

We also had to draw some of our items in different techniques looking at the object, making rubbings of them, also drawing what the objects felt, tasted and what you could hear from them. 

These are the drawing that I draw of some parts or all of some of my chosen objects.

Below are the what I could feel, taste and hear of the items without looking at the object or the page. 

After choosing some of the items to put in the time capsule, I went into the back-garden to dig a whole to bury them in. The reason why I buried them in the garden was because they would always be after I have left home, also because my neighbours would think it was quite suspicious I was digging a whole at 11 o'clock at night. Below are the photos I took step by step digging the whole, to placing my items into the ground.  

I also drew my items in the bag, so I would have a memory of what they looked like as a photograph and a drawing attempt.

Design Museum Visit

The Future is Here was an exhibition held at the Design Museum in London. The exhibition was about the transformation for the way things are designed, manufactured and also how much design has changed through any previous industrial revolutions. 

Below are a selection of photographs that I took whilst I was in the exhibition. All of the products were made and designed in different ways and were inspired by different things. I feel that each of these objects/creations are very different to one another in the aspect of shape, concept and use.
